03/07/2019 - OBCC Rob Ridder Scholarship Fund Donation
The Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce Rob Ridder Scholarship was established in 2014, and is intended to recognize students of Chamber members for outstanding educational and community service achievement. 

The Ormond Chamber expects to award four to six, one-time new scholarships this school year.  Each recipient will be awarded a scholarship of up to $1000. Eligibility and awards will be decided by the OBCC Scholarship committee based on the applicant pool.

Your generous donation will help us continue to build a stronger community.

03/02/2019 - Daytona Beach YAC Host Basketball Academy for Athletes Starting March 2019
The Youth Athletic Charity (YAC) is currently accepting applications for a Basketball Academy occurring each Saturday beginning in March for students in 6th through 10th grade. The event allows student-athletes in underserved communities to participate in premium-training sessions designed to hone their skills on the court and provide meaningful teambuilding experience. The Academy provides participants with sponsorship opportunities to attend training camps, tournaments, and experience an advanced level of competition. Coaches and staff aim to foster each athlete’s skillsets to increase the participants’ chances of receiving a collegiate scholarship. 03/21/2019 - 1/2 Cent Sales Tax Town Hall

Are you willing to pay an additional half-cent sales tax to fund infrastructure needs?

As an educational resource for West Volusia, the Daytona News-Journal and the West Volusia Regional Chamber of Commerce  will hold a town hall-style meetings on March 21 to discuss the proposed half-cent sales tax and hear from our West Volusia community. 

Moderated by News Journal Editor Pat Rice, the panel will feature officials from Volusia County and Mayor Heidi Herzberg from Deltona, DeBary Mayor Karen Chasez, and Orange City  Manager Dale Arrington who will be on hand to answer questions and concerns about the proposed tax, and to share information about infrastructure needs.

Nancy Beth Goren is a business and real estate attorney with over 25 years of experience.  She prides herself in learning and understanding her clients’ businesses and industries so that she can be part of the big picture, rather than just handling matters on a limited basis.  As a former in-house counsel, she believes this approach enables her to protect her clients, prevent problems before they arise and customize her services to their needs.  In addition to practicing law, Nancy owns Business Bare Minimums with accountant Jennifer Reynolds.  Business Bare Minimums educates business owners on basic business literacy.
Nancy will be speaking about contracts and business transactions.  She will discuss how to understand contracts and how to use contracts to protect businesses and make business relationships work.

HALF CENT SALES TAX TOWN HALL
The Chamber of Commerce will be collaborating with the Daytona Beach News Journal, with Pat Rice serving as moderator, to provide a Town Hall discussion forum. This forum will provide opportunity to learn more about the proposed half cent sales tax from an educational standpoint. Local citizens are encouraged to attend to ask questions or raise concerns about the proposed tax. Our goal is to give citizens information they can use to make informed choices as voters.
Local area cities will have available infrastructure project boards outlining details of how funds will be appropriated should the bill pass. Doors will open at 5:30 pm.

MainStreet DeLand's annual Florida Wildflower & Garden Festival gets underway at 9 a.m. March 23 with unique vendors, presentations and demonstrations by wildflower and gardening experts. Vendors lining downtown's West Indiana Avenue will offer garden- and nature-related items, including plants, seeds, honey, yard art and planters, photos and books. Gardening and wildflower-related presentations will be featured from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Athens Theater, 124 N. Florida Ave., adjoining West Indiana Avenue and in Chess Park.
